Improving Data Handling

On June 9, 2021, Council approved a new Data Handling Policy. This Policy describes how data is managed by employees and third party agencies. The intention of the Policy is to protect the corporation from harm by implementing formalized rules and training around the handling of sensitive, restricted and classified information. The City is taking a phased approach over the next few years. The process will start with a human focus, dedicated to training all staff and data loss prevention. We Are Now Open by Default

On June 9, 2021, Council approved a revision to the City of Mississauga’s Open Data Policy. The major revision to this policy is the adoption of the six International Open Data Charter (IODC) Principles, including the principle of Open by Default.  Mississauga has been a leading municipality in the world of Open Data. Starting in 2010 Mississauga was one of the first cities in Canada to publish open data, later developing the City’s Open Data Policy in 2015. Following the direction from the Smart City Master Plan, the team is taking the next steps in moving the Smart City Program forward. With the intention of setting guardrails around digital in the physical realm, the team is committed to creating a Smart City Policy and we need your help!  Smart City will be launching a citizen engagement process to learn and hear from our community about what will be included in a Smart City Policy. The Smart City Annual Report for 2020 was developed to provide an overview of Mississauga’s Smart City program and report on the progress being made through the guidance of the Smart City Master Plan. FrontDesk

The City’s IT department recognized that FrontDesk could help us adapt to the new normal of COVID-19. FrontDesk is a cloud-based queue and appointment management system. It was designed to minimize wait times, improve service levels and enhance the customer experience. From September 2019 to January 2020, this solution successfully improved service delivery within the City’s Legislative Services and Building Services, respectively. Following this success, IT recognized that this tool could be used to improve service delivery across the organization.
